Bach & Bartok Program Note

Emily Leung studied violin at the Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University Bloomington, with
Mauricio Fuks, for whom she also worked as a teaching assistant. She was a Wells Scholarship
recipient, one of the United States’ most prestigious undergraduate scholarships. She also studied
Baroque violin under Stanley Ritchie, and piano with the assistants of Menahem Pressler.
She has won numerous awards and scholarships, including being a semi-finalist and winner of the
Tingleman Award in the 2018 Melbourne International Violin Competition. She was also a recipient
of the Royal Schools Music Club Anniversary Scholarship, and a Young People and the Arts Grant
from the Western Australian Department of Culture and the Arts.
She has frequently appeared as a soloist with the Fremantle Chamber Orchestra, with whom she will
return to play in October 2021. She has also performed throughout the United States, Canada,
France and Austria. She is an avid chamber musician and led the Indiana University Baroque
Orchestra.
Emily is currently studying medicine at the University of Western Australia. When not playing the
violin or studying, she can be found drawing penguins – one of her dreams is to publish children’s
picture books to teach children about the environment.
